Mecklenburg Breast Health Coalition
Susan G. Komen Charlotte is excited to announce the Mecklenburg Breast Health Coalition. Our vision is to increase breast cancer awareness and access to care by connecting community resources and addressing breast health needs in Mecklenburg County
In 2013, a projected 9,339 women in North Carolina will be diagnosed with breast cancer, 788 in Mecklenburg County. Unfortunately, Mecklenburg has the highest late stage diagnosis in the Susan G. Komen Charlotte service area, with 9% of women diagnosed with breast cancer at late stages. Also, when looking at late stage diagnosis by race, African American women are more likely to be diagnosed at Stage IV breast cancer than other races. The Mecklenburg Breast Health Coalition (MBHC) was created to decrease barriers, bridge gaps and share resources in Mecklenburg County.
In order to find ways to decrease the late stage diagnosis rate in Mecklenburg County the MBHC conducted focus groups. The MBHC is now analyzing the data in order to meet the needs of the community. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org
